Free Food Chicago: Bar Toma Free Pizza

The Guide to Eating Well for Less #1: Morton's National Filet Mignon Day = $1 Steak Sliders
Let's start a new blog series! We're going to call it "The Guide to Eating Well for Less". And each time I find an amazing food deal, YOU will hear all about it. Excited? Ok, let's start!
Did you know that August 13th is National Filet Mignon Day? Although I feel like every day is a National something Day, this one is especially awesome because...Morton's Steakhouse Filet Mignon Sliders are only $1! There's a maximun of 12 per person and it's available only at the bar, but isn't eating at the bar better anyways? Service is quicker at least, since the bartender is always there to be flagged down and that's why I love it. Morton's Steakhouse is nationalwide, and for us Chicagoan, the place to go is on East Wacker St downtown. It's available open to close, so when you're feeling hungry, take a walk down there.

Music Mania!
Lollapalooza was just last week, and one would think that I'd be tired of listening to live music, but I will never! Chicago loves summertime, and one of the constant summer activity is live band outdoors. I can easily find some sort of performance somewhere. Lucky for us, Dunkin Donuts decided to make Chicago a stop in their DD Summer Soundtrack. So on a Tuesday afternoon in August, I wandered down to the river and caught Hippo Campus perform. Of course, with Dunkin Donuts being a sponsered, the audience was graced with cups of iced coffee. Not bad for a Tuesday!

Let's Go To The Movies: Fantastic Four
Last night, my friends and I (us Fantastic Five) went to the AMC River East Theater in Chicago to attend an advanced screening of the movie Fantastic Four. The tickets were given by Eventful and were well-attended. The first of my friends came at 5:15pm for the 7pm showing, and yet we were among the last audience members to get in. Thankfully, I was not sitting in the front row!
Although the movie kept me entertained for nearly 2 hours, I don't think it was that great. It's a feel-good story about friendship and the highjinks that happens when kids get drunk. but if you go expecting an action movie, you'll be disappointed. Many of us left feeling angry at the shortfall. But Eventful did provide us with free popcorn and soda, so the night was not a complete loss.
Verdict: An ok film to see for free, but don't pay for it.
Speaking of seeing it for free, I found a Jet Magazine giveaway to another screening of Fantastic Four.

Movie Mondays: Southpaw, Ant-man, Trainwreck, and Serena
I go to the movies a lot. So much that it becomes a jumble in my head and I forget the movies that I see, sometimes. That's pretty sad. So since my goal in blogging is to document my everyday and this year I'm attempting to blog more, I've decided to make every Monday a recap of movies I've seen in the preceding week.
And oh what a week to start this! I saw A LOT!
As you know (or not know) 80% of the moveis I see at theaters are via movie screenings AKA FREE MOVIES! Not only am I able to save a butt-load of money, but I get to see them before any of my friends. Something about that exclusivity makes it so special...
Anyways, this past week, I saw Southpaw at a screening and IT WAS INTENSE! I don't know what got over me, but this movie made me an emotional wreck. I wish I had brought a whole box of kleenex with me that day. Jake Gyllenhaul was amazing in it and Rachel McAdams was beautiful as always. By far, my favorite movie this week. Plus the Eminem soundtrack is kickass. Go see it!
Next is Ant-Man with Paul Rudd. Paul Rudd is so adorable and his goofiness made him a perfect pawn for unintentional comedy in an otherwise serious action movie. And thank god for that comedy because how can you take a ant-size hero seriously?
Trainwreck was...literally a trainwreck. The movie was funny for the first hour and a half. I loved Amy Schumer and Bill Hader, and of course Lebron James, but the last half hour really annoyed me. Did it have to be that long? Did it have to end that way? I find it so unrealistic. It's like she kinda gave up on the writing at the end.
Also, on Netflix, I caught Serena. Why does Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper keep acting together? I love the character Jen portrayed - so strong and confident. But then, why did she have to go crazy at the end? Can't some women succeed and own their happiness with what they already have? Definitely not my favorite J. Law/BradCoop Combo.
